Forschungsinteressen:Ant behavioural Ecology, Ant-plant interactions, Biodiversity, Ecological indicators
Forschungsgebiete:
Forschungsprojekte:The current projects aim at investigation of ant biodiversity and behavioural ecology.
I am interested in examining the role of ecologically dominant ant species in the ecosystem, particularly in annual crop agroecosystems with the aim of understanding the potential of ants as biological control agents of major insect pests of two important annual vegetable crops: sponge gourd, Luffa cylindrica and cauliflower, Brassica oleracea. Aspects such as ant community organization, dominance hierarchies and foraging ecology of the agroecosystem-nesting ant species are being investigated to so as to get information about the potential of specific ant species in conservation biological control of major insect pests in ephemeral annual crop agroecosystems. I am also examining tri-trophic associations between ants, extrafloral nectary-bearing plants and insect herbivores. Another line of investigation is examining the role of ants as ecological indicators.
