NEW on antbase.net in April 2009:
A call for specimens from Michael Branstetter, University of California, Davis:
Fresh specimens of
Stenamma pingorum (formerly
S. orientale) Dubois 2000 needed for molecular work. This is an aberrant species of
Stenamma known only from a few Berlese samples collected in Sarawak on the island of Borneo. Any specimens would be appreciated, but to be most useful they should be no more than 15 years old and preserved in 90-100% etoh. Pinned specimens originally collected into 95% etoh also work well. I am currently working on a broad-scale phylogeny of the genus
Stenamma and am very interested to include this species, as well as other Asian taxa, into the dataset. This work will greatly help in defining
Stenamma and determining what the major lineages are.

This month we present pictures from the Natural History Museum in Vienna (NHMW). This is a new cooperation between the NHMW and www.antbase.net, and the pictures were taken by Magdalena Sorger of the NHMW. Enjoy the pictures!
